William "Bill" Joseph Lanning, Jr., 79, passed from this life peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Bill was born in Illinois, graduated from high school, served in the military, and ended up in Missouri where he found work. Bill was a devoted farmhand and a cherished member of the Williams Farms family, where he worked tirelessly for over 30 years. He formed a deep bond and lasting friendships with Brad Williams and his family, becoming an integral part of their lives.
Prior to his devoted work in agriculture, Bill honorably served his country in the United States Army where he served two tours during the Vietnam War. This experience profoundly shaped his character, instilling in him a selfless spirit and a commitment to serving others. His caring nature was evident in the way he dedicated himself to his work and to the Williams family.
Bill had a passion for fishing, where he found peace and joy in the simplicity of nature. He is remembered as a gentle soul who exemplified kindness and generosity.
He is survived by his beloved family, Brad (Linda) Williams, Rachel Phillips, Amindia (Matt) Small, Lydia Phillips, Lincoln Phillips and Weston Small, who cherished their time with him and will carry his memory in their hearts. He is also survived by his adopted son, Steven Lanning and cousin, Gary Skeens. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Lanning.
A graveside service to honor Bill's life will be held at Cardwell Cemetery on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM. As we celebrate Bill, may we remember a remarkable man who touched the lives of so many through his unwavering kindness and dedication.
