Wayne H. Cook

July 18, 1953 — March 4, 2024

Wayne Herschel Cook, born on July 18, 1953, in Portageville, Missouri, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2024, at NEA Baptist in Jonesboro. Known for his gentle spirit and love for literature, Wayne was a dedicated factory worker at Gates Rubber Company having worked there for over 30 years.

A man of simple tastes, Wayne found comfort in the pages of books, where he would immerse himself in distant worlds. He could often be found with a book in hand, bringing the stories to life through his vivid imagination. Alongside his passion for reading, Wayne cherished moments spent watching sports and westerns on TV, finding relaxation in the familiar plots and thrilling games.

In his leisure time, Wayne enjoyed engaging in card games, particularly competing in Pitch tournaments. His competitive spirit and love for friendly rivalry endeared him to many, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of sharing a game with him.

Wayne is survived by his brothers, James "Jim" (Roberta) Cook of Shelbyville, Illinois, John (Joyce) Cook of Paragould, Ricky Cook of Paragould, and Stoney Cook of Paragould and numerous nephews and nieces. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Starr Elaine Cook and Vicki June Wilcoxen.

In commemorating Wayne's life, we remember his kind heart, his love for books, and his enduring passion for friendly competition. May his spirit continue to inspire us, and may his memory live on in the stories shared by those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Wayne Herschel Cook.
