Vernie "Grandma" Dowdy

Vernie "Grandma" Dowdy, 90, of Beech Grove, passed away Sunday at her residence. She retired from farming and running a daycare. Vernie was the daughter of the late William and Lucy Rawls. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Durrell Dowdy; sons, Terry Allen Dowdy and Bobby Gale Dowdy; brothers, Harvey, DW, Ernie, Joe Rawls; and sisters, Ester Rawls, Euna Smith, Dessie Wren, and Clora Manzo.

Survivors included her daughter, Joann (Larry) Davis; son, Darrell (Kathy) Dowdy; daughter-in-law, Sandy Dowdy; special friend, Michael Schuckman; 14 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral is Thursday at 10:30 am at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Dennis Strope officiating. Burial is in Beech Grove Cemetery. Please send memorials to the Children's Homes of Paragould.
