Sigmund "Zig" T. Penkunas

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sigmund T. Penkunas of Paragould, Arkansas. He was a beloved father, brother and friend. Sigmund, known to many as Zig or Ziggy, peacefully left this world on January 3, 2024. He was born on August 23, 1949 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Elizabeth Penkunas, and brother, Frank Penkunas, all of Phoenix, Arizona.

Zig spent his career as a Maintenance Supervisor at Nucor Yamato Steel where he dedicated his efforts for many years, all the while having fun and laughs with his coworkers. Outside of work, Zig was a master at wood and iron work amongst many other hobbies. In his free time, he enjoyed spoiling and walking his dog, Lady.

Zig leaves behind his daughter Whitney Moss (Jeff) of Sheridan, Arkansas; son Dustin Penkunas (Desi) of Paragould, Arkansas; son Dylan Penkunas of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandson Dax Moss; and granddaughter Bryn Penkunas. He also leaves behind brother Edward Penkunas, sister, Elizabeth Wilkie (Eddie), sister Ruthie Conlon (Brian), niece Amanda and nephew Daniel all of Phoenix, Arizona. Zig was known as the “crazy, fun brother” to his siblings.

Although Zig’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, the impact he made on the lives of his family and friends endures.

In honor of Zig’s life, a visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Heath Funeral Home. Friends, family and all who knew Zig are invited to attend this gathering to pay their respects.
