It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Russell Dale Bateman, affectionately known as R.D. Bateman, who departed this life on May 10, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on October 18, 1929, in Boydsville, Arkansas, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and unwavering faith that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

R.D. served proudly in the United States Air Force, a testament to his dedication and commitment to his country. His technical acumen was evident from an early age, having worked as a mechanic before his military service. A true electronic aficionado, he took great delight in the challenge of building his own television from a kit and assembling computers.

Throughout his life, R.D. was multifaceted in his interests. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, yard work, boating, and water skiing. These passions were reflective of his zest for life and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of nature and family.

A devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church-now known as Harvest Baptist Church-R.D.'s Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. He embodied the principles of a gentleman, always holding doors open for others and offering kindness and support to those around him. In the early 1960s, he helped found Koza Baptist church in Okinawa, Japan, showcasing his commitment to his faith and community while living there with his family.

R.D. witnessed many changes throughout his life, from his childhood farming with a mule-drawn plow to his remarkable career in engineering, where he designed, built, and program-managed flight simulators for the Air Force. His contributions took him across the country, sharing his expertise and training others in the field.

R.D. is survived by his beloved daughter, Tina (Keith) Rhodes, and son, Dale (Patricia) Bateman, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the values he instilled in them.
R.D. was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Bateman; father, Lee Bateman; mother, Estelle Bateman; and his sisters, Irene Smith and Alma Watson.

A graveside service will be held in his honor on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector, Arkansas. All who knew him are invited to join in celebrating the life of this remarkable man who exemplified the qualities of a true gentleman and cherished friend.

In this time of reflection, let us remember R.D. Bateman not only for his accomplishments but for his unwavering character and his legacy of love, faith, and kindness. He was indeed the kind of man every mother wishes for her son to be, and he will be deeply missed.
