Ruben Eugene Watkins, born on February 10, 1934, in Fontaine, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. A dedicated and hardworking man, Ruben's life was a testament to resilience and determination. He left school after the third grade, embarking on a journey that took him from Light to Paragould, often riding horseback or walking into town in pursuit of opportunity.

A true Jack of all trades, Ruben began working in a sawmill at a young age, demonstrating an unwavering work ethic that shaped his life. Throughout his years, he honed his skills in various roles, from the Ed White Shoe Factory and Paragould Lumber Company to Emerson Electric. His most cherished endeavor was owning Watkins Cafe, where he served his community with delicious food and warm hospitality for several years. After selling the restaurant, he turned his talents toward construction, leaving a legacy of homes and buildings throughout Greene County, each a testament to his craftsmanship.

Beyond work, Ruben had a passion for the outdoors. He loved camping, duck hunting, and running trot lines, cherishing the moments spent in nature. His children fondly remember the times he took them out for ice cream when they were young.

Ruben is survived by his lifetime companion, Opal Campbell Watkins; three beloved daughters, Deborah (the late Rick) Jackson, Linda (Jim Bray) Watkins, and Rebecca (the late Rayburn) Formon; as well as his son, Joseph (Vicki) Watkins. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Venita (Lonny) Terry, Tom (Lauren) Jackson, Regina Watkins, Amee (Shannon) Tribble, Jamie (Andrew) Nash, Derek (Stacy) Formon, Andy (Misty) Formon, and Chandra Hampton; nineteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication to family, and a profound love for the community he served.

Ruben is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Watkins and Mary Walker; great-grandson, Russell Mack Watkins; sisters, Juanita Perkins, Elwanda Bush, Jean Clark, and Una Belle Spicer; and brother, William Watkins.

A graveside service will be held in his honor at Greene County Memorial Gardens on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 3:00 PM, where he will be laid to rest.
