Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Junior "Bob" Smith, who left us peacefully on August 30, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on April 20, 1933, in Holly Grove, Arkansas, Bob lived a life full of love, faith, and music, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bob served honorably in the Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country and gaining invaluable experiences that shaped his character. Following his time in the military, he spent several years at McDonnell Douglas, an aerospace manufacturing corporation, even earning a plaque in the Smithsonian for his work. He then spent over 30 years working as a tool and die maker at Emerson Electric, where his craftsmanship was admired by coworkers and friends alike.

Beyond his profession, he was a dedicated deacon at Calvary Baptist Church, where he shared his talent for music, leading congregational singing into his 90s. Bob's faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he actively served in several churches throughout the years, always eager to spread joy through song. He was also an honorary member of New Haven Baptist Church, after putting many hours of sweat, love, and hard work into erecting their newest church building.

Outside of his church activities, Bob cherished traveling with family, fondly visiting Branson, Missouri, where he could enjoy live music and the company of loved ones. A true lover of music and singing, he taught himself to play both the piano and mandolin and found joy in painting and gardening, nurturing both his creativity and his love for nature.

Bob was also a compassionate community member, serving as the president of the New Friendship Cemetery Committee, ensuring that the resting place of many beloved souls was well cared for.

Bob is survived by his devoted son, Rob (Sharon Tribble) Smith; his loving daughter, Julie (Terry) Williams; grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Laura (Kendall) Manuel, Jacob (Whitney) Williams, Robert Andrew Smith, Kenneth Daniel (Melissa) Smith, Jonathan Smith, Christina (Jason) Maxwell, Ryan (Anna) Williams, James David (Reanna) Smith; a host of great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Smith; parents, John Elvis Smith and Mary Gertrude Smith; son, Kenneth Scott Smith; and siblings, Ruth Rogers, Ruby Mayberry, Dorothy Phipps, Louise Long, Mary Childress, John Smith, and Kenneth Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at New Haven Baptist Church, where friends and family will gather to honor him at 10:00 AM with Bro. Ron Pickney officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at New Friendship Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Heath Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, beginning at 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

As we remember Bob, let us carry forward his legacy of love, faith, and song, touching the lives of others as he did throughout his remarkable journey. He will be dearly missed by all.
