Martha Carolyn Puckett, a beloved educator and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on April 12, 1936, in Grange, Arkansas, Carolyn dedicated her life to the pursuit of education and the betterment of her church and community.

Carolyn graduated as Valedictorian from Greene County Tech High School in 1952 at the age of 16, demonstrating early on her dedication to academic excellence. She continued her education at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and subsequently obtained a Master's Degree in Education from Arkansas State University.

Her teaching career spanned 40 years, with 16 years at Lafe Elementary and 24 years at Oak Grove Elementary. Throughout her tenure, she was lauded for her remarkable contributions to education, receiving numerous accolades including Teacher of the Year and the Outstanding Teacher of America recognition. Carolyn was also a member of the Elementary School Council at the State Department of Education, where she focused on enhancing educational standards. Her commitment to teaching was further honored with the Golden Apple Award and the Master Teacher Award.

After retirement in 1995, Carolyn remained active in education through her involvement with the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association (ARTA) and the Greene County Retired Teachers Association, where she served as 2nd Vice President and participated in various committees, showcasing her enduring passion for teaching and her community.

Carolyn's vibrant spirit extended beyond the classroom. A dedicated member of the Woodland Hills Church of the Nazarene, she served as a Youth President, Sunday School teacher, Mission Society President, Church Treasurer, and pianist, infusing her joy for music into the lives of those around her. Her musical talent blossomed in her youth, leading her to purchase her first piano through diligent manual labor, and later becoming a noted pianist and piano teacher for various community functions, weddings, and events.

Carolyn's life was marked by unwavering devotion to her family and friends, particularly her sister Charlotte Slinker, and her nephews Keith (Crystal) and Jason Slinker and her great-nieces: Avery Carolyn and Addilyn Joy Slinker. She was honored to have the compassionate support of her caregivers-Gean Nelson, Mary Scott, Rhoni Hale, Pam White, and Sheryl Morato-whose kindness and dedication were invaluable to her.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Deal Puckett; mother, Lanell Puckett; infant sister, Jo Ann Puckett; and brother-in-law, Glen Slinker.
