Marilyn Jean Marlar, 71, of Paragould, passed from this life on Sunday, April 17, 2022. She was born at the Paragould Community Hospital on April 27, 1950, to the late George and Alene Hyatt. Marilyn graduated from Paragould High School and attended Arkansas State University. She spent years as a receptionist at Greene Acres Nursing Home, and she was Vice President of Ballard's Flowers, Inc. and Pyramid Wholesale Florist. Marilyn married her best friend, Greg, on February 4, 1991. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. In fact, all her children agreed she was the best mother that has ever lived, and she was the strongest and most loyal woman they ever knew. She also loved family gatherings. Aside from her family, Marilyn enjoyed reading her Bible. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Memphis Redbirds. Marilyn was a loyal and faithful member of Lake Street Baptist Church for over 20 years. She loved sending cards to others, whether it was a card of thanks, encouragement, congratulations, or just "thinking of you". She always put others ahead of herself. It was this selflessness, along with her husband's devotion to Rotary, that led her to become an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Paragould, whose motto is "Service Above Self". Marilyn was a Paul Harris Fellow (a prestigious Rotarian recognition award). She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joshua Myles; and granddaughter, Lisa Steele.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 31 years, Greg Marlar; children, Hannah (Brad) Hoyer, Mark Myles, and Kristi (Terry) Henry; grandchildren, J.B. Hoyer, Bailey Grace Hoyer, Aaliyah Reece Marlar, Thomas Henry, Lucy Henry, and T.J. Henry; and sister, Sharron Nihart.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral is Wednesday at 10am at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Wayne Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Terry Henry, J.B. Hoyer, Thomas Henry, T.J. Henry, Richard Brengard, and Trevor DeAngelo. Honorary pallbearers are son-in-law, Brad Hoyer, and the PHS Class of 1968.
