The Lord welcomed Luther Ray Cummings home on June 2, 2026. He was born on December 28, 1947, to Luther and Maggie Douglas Cummings in Brookland. He retired from Emerson Electric in Paragould, where he lived and raised his family. Luther was a faithful member of Center Hill Church of Christ in Paragould and later a beloved member of the Greenbrier Church of Christ in Greenbrier, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and the love of his life, Anna Faye Snyder Cummings, who passed away on April 5th, 1970; his son, Brian Cummings; a brother, Bobby Cummings; a sister, Evalou Jackson; his infant brother, Johnny Charles Cummings; and a cherished companion, Barbara Walker.
Luther is survived by his son, Kevin Cummings (Rose Mary) of Conway, Arkansas; his daughter, Delilah Cummings of Knoxville, TN; a sister Mary Walls of Kennett, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Luther never met a stranger and made friends easily. He had lifelong friends and wonderful neighbors in Paragould, who continued to call and visit even after his move to Greenbrier in 2021 to be closer to family. He quickly formed new friendships with his neighbors there and found a loving church family. After his move to College Square Senior Apartments in Conway in 2025, he connected just as naturally with the caring staff and residents and cherished his nine months spent there.
Luther loved fast cars, gardening- especially growing his famous tomatoes - camping with friends, and volunteering with his church food pantry. Music was a daily joy for him. A talented carpenter, he built and remodeled many of the homes that he and his family lived in over the years. In his later years, he could often be found on his mower, keeping his lawn pristine. Above all, he loved his grandchildren and was proud of each one.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, at the Greenbrier Church of Christ in Greenbrier, Arkansas, with Pastor Glen Elliott officiating. A graveside service will take place the same day at 4:00 p.m. in Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland.
