Leslie Shannon Bates, born on January 27, 1965, in Navarro, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in Memphis. Leslie made her home in Naples, Florida, for many years before moving to the Memphis area. She currently resided in Paragould, where she was known not only for her dedication to her work but also for her deep love for her family and friends.
Leslie was a proud manager at Jordan's Kwik Stop #1, where she thrived in her role and built lasting relationships with her colleagues and customers. A true workaholic, she found immense joy and fulfillment in her profession, pouring her heart into every shift.
In her personal life, Leslie's warmth and spirit shone most brightly in her relationships. She met her beloved partner, Stephanie Bates, in 2000. Their bond grew strong over the years, culminating in a commitment service in August 2010 and an official marriage on June 26, 2015, in Crittenden County. Together, Leslie and Stephanie created a loving home filled with laughter and support.
Leslie was a devoted mother to her sons, Chase Bates of Memphis, Lee Bates of Memphis, James Roe of Trenton, Tennessee, and William Roe of Paragould; her daughters, Brandi Messenger of Naples, Florida, and Megan Bates of Paragould. She cherished her family deeply, embracing every moment with passion and compassion. In addition to her spouse and children, she is survived by seventeen grandchildren; her sister, Judi Fifer-Nelson of Lehigh Acres, Florida; and five nephews and nieces, who held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Bates, and nephew, Andy Rohaley.
In her leisure time, Leslie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved watching television, particularly immersing herself in crime and cop shows, often binge-watching episodes for hours. Leslie was also a shoe enthusiast, proudly collecting numerous pairs that filled her closet and always on the prowl for the next perfect addition. Additionally, her love for margaritas was well-known; whether at home or out with friends, she could often be seen with one in hand, relishing in the company and moments shared.
Leslie had a secret relationship with Dolly Parton that even Dolly didn't know about. She loved to watch Dolly on TV, listen to her songs, and was planning a trip with Stephanie to Dollywood in the near future.
Leslie's kind heart and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on those who had the fortune of knowing her.
