Listen to Obituary

Joyce Darlene Hammon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at the age of 81, at NEA Baptist in Jonesboro. Born on December 6, 1943, in Paragould, Joyce was a beacon of love and warmth in her community and was cherished by all who knew her.

Joyce graduated from Greene County Tech in 1962 and dedicated her life to her family as a devoted homemaker. She married her beloved husband, Eugene Hammon, on June 7, 1963, a union that exemplified love and resilience for nearly six decades. Together, they built a wonderful life, filled with the laughter and joy of their children: Jeffrey, Rachel, and Cordell. Joyce's heart swelled with pride for her grandchildren. They were the lights of her life, and she nurtured her entire family with love through her passion for cooking and baking-especially her renowned apple cake, Texas sheet cake, and her grandchildren's beloved "gingerbread boys".

Active in her community, Joyce was a member of the Transplants Garden Club of Jonesboro and the AMMC Auxiliary, where she devoted her time to assisting patients and families with empathy and compassion. An avid puzzle enthusiast, she often found solace and joy in her jigsaw puzzles, piecing together both challenges and delights in her quiet moments. As a devoted member of the Pentecostal faith, she attended Life Tabernacle in Walnut Ridge, where she found strength and community.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Eugene Hammon; her children, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Hammon, Rachel (Jerry) Hobbs, and Cordell (Crystal) Hammon; her grandchildren, Colby (Amanda) Hammon, Leah (Jonathan) Turner, Caleb (Aslyn) Hammon, Jaden Hammon, Montana (Ryan) Thomason, John Isaac Hall, Katherine (Chris Anglin) Keele, Cassandra Keele, and Cordell Gene Hammon; and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah, Anna, Jeremiah, Jace, Lydia, Bryleigh, Chloe, Isabella, Jasper, Liam, Emma, Savanna, Atlas, Eli, Carter, Ivy, and Dante. She is also survived by her sister, Melba (George) Treadway, and her brother, Hershel (Sue) Stepp.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Bluford and Alberta (Ayers) Stepp; brother, Vernon "Duke" Stepp; and sister, Francis Trayler.

Joyce will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her spirit of generosity, her nurturing ways, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

A funeral service to celebrate Joyce's life will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Christian Life Center in Brookland with Pastor Colby Hammon officiating, followed by a burial at Greene County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, September 1, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Christian Life Center.

In this time of mourning, we invite family and friends to gather together to honor Joyce's remarkable journey and to share in the love that she so freely gave to each of us.
