Jimmy "Jim" Ray Bowlin

February 1, 1937 — February 4, 2024

Jimmy "Jim" Ray Bowlin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community peacefully departed this world on February 4, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love of his family.


Born in Stanford, Arkansas, on February 1, 1937, to the late Lloyd and Drusilla Bowlin, Jim was a dedicated individual who embraced life with passion and unwavering commitment. He graduated from Stanford High School in 1955, laying the foundation for a future filled with remarkable achievements. On December 6, 1958, he united in marriage with his soulmate, Norma Jean Bowlin, embarking on a beautiful journey that lasted over six decades.


Jim's love for education led him to Arkansas State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He dedicated himself to shaping young minds as a P.E., History, and Driver's Education teacher for an outstanding 37 years. Throughout his illustrious career, he touched the lives of countless students, coaching baseball and basketball teams at various schools, including Egypt, Oak Grove, Greene County Tech, Highland, Stanford, Marmaduke, and Buffalo Island Central.


Jim's leadership and skills on the baseball field were legendary. His 1964 Greene County Tech baseball team triumphed in the state tournament, leaving an indelible mark on the program. In 1967, his team secured the state runner-up position, showcasing his exceptional coaching abilities. A true testament to his dedication and talent, Jim achieved an outstanding overall record of 814 wins and a mere 275 losses during his basketball coaching career.


Recognizing his prowess and impact on the sport, Jim was honored with induction into the esteemed Arkansas Coaches Hall of Fame in July 2009. His dedication extended beyond the playing field and the court as he was an actively involved member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church, where his presence brought comfort and inspiration to all.


Jim's legacy lives on through his beloved bride of 65 years, Norma Bowlin; his devoted son, Scott (Kathy) Bowlin; his cherished daughter, Stephane (Barry) Davis, along with grandchildren, Meagan Ann (Matthew) Bowlin Gonzales of Thompson Station, Tennessee, Skyler Jim (Camilla) Bowlin of Arnhurst, Denmark, Tyson Welch Davis of Paragould, Trase Ryan (Taylor) Davis of Paragould, Jordan Craig Pickens of Springdale, Arkansas, and Briley Elizabeth (Chase) Brody of Gravette, Arkansas; great grandchildren, McKenzie and Madison Gonzales, Luka Bowlin, Reagan and Lincoln Davis, Addison Arnold, Emma and Ryan Davis, and Charlotte Brody; sister, Daphne Adams; and brother, Chalk Bowlin. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Snow Bowlin, Hoss Bowlin, and Glen Mac Bowlin.


A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Heath Funeral Home. A visitation will take place from 11 am until 1 pm. The funeral will begin at 1 pm with Rev. Kim Bridges and Breck Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.


Although Jimmy's physical presence may no longer be with us, his spirit and influence will continue to inspire and guide us. Let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and the significance he had in our hearts. May his soul find eternal peace.


In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Jim Bowlin's memory to the Arkansas Coaches Association Scholarship Fund.
