James "Jim" Alpha Coffman, 82, of Paragould, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born December 7, 1943, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Donald Coffman and Doris Mellen.
Jim graduated from Broken Bow High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy in 1970 and dedicated nearly 45 years to the profession. Throughout his career, he not only practiced as a respiratory therapist but also shared his knowledge by teaching at Westark Community College in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He later worked at Arkansas Children's Hospital, where he remained until his retirement in 2015.
He is survived by his son, Brian Coffman (Melissa); grandchildren, Ty, Dylan (Madison), and Hailey Coffman; brothers, Donald Venini (Denise), Pat Coffman (Cindy), Mike Coffman (Peggy), Mic Coffman (Melanie), Joe Venini (Wendy), and Steve Venini; sisters, Vickey Jansen and Mary Lee (Mardell Lutz); and special friend, Betty Griggs, and her daughters, Kimberly Jones, Crystal Hallmark, and Emily Hendren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Coffman and Doris Mellen, sister Dixie Allison, and his brothers, Jack and Rob Allison.
Jim enjoyed gathering rocks from the woods and creating waterfalls, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for nature and craftsmanship. He also took great pride in his work and deeply valued his career as a respiratory therapist.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 3 PM at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. A time of visitation will follow the service.
