Dr. Howard Leon Joy, a cherished member of our community, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on April 7, 1941, in Silva, Missouri, and spent a fulfilling life dedicated to family, community, and service. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Howard enlisted on March 1, 1962, and honorably discharged on February 28, 1966, achieving the rank of Airman First Class (E4).
Howard graduated from high school in Eureka, Kansas, in 1959 and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Pre-Med from Arkansas State University. He furthered his education by graduating from pharmacy school at the University of Mississippi, eventually establishing his own pharmacy in Paragould. His commitment to healthcare and the well-being of others was evident through his years of service as a pharmacist.
In addition to his professional achievements, Howard had a deep passion for the arts, particularly canvas painting in oils and acrylics, as well as cartooning. He was an avid basketball fan, with lifelong support for Arkansas State University, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Kansas. Howard was also a devoted member of New Haven Baptist Church, where he found community and fellowship.
Howard is survived by his loving daughter, Shona Joy (Les) Covington; his granddaughter, Joy Victoria Covington; and his sister, Linda Berberick. His warm spirit, dedication to his craft, and love for his family will be profoundly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Juanita Joy; bride of 51 years, Sharron Joy; and brothers, Harold and Wayne Joy.
A private service was held at Linwood Cemetery where family gathered to remember a life that left a legacy of love and dedication to all who knew him.
