Helen Louise McKay, cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on January 17, 1943, in Corning, Arkansas, Helen dedicated her life to her family and her community, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
A devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Helen embraced her faith and participated actively in church events, nurturing a sense of belonging and camaraderie among her fellow parishioners. Her love of nature was evident in her beautiful flower beds, as well as the hummingbirds and butterflies that graced her yard. She had a particular passion for building birdhouses, providing safe havens for her feathered friends.
Helen was known for her warm and welcoming spirit. As a former homemaker and employee of Brown's Shoe Company, she made countless memories and forged lasting connections with those around her. Her famous "granny pancakes" became a beloved staple for both her children and their friends, drawing them to her home multiple times a week for nourishment and companionship. Helen had a unique ability to connect with kids, caring for her own and always ready to embrace others in her nurturing presence.
She is survived by her son, Rodger McKay, and her daughter, Vickie Herring, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McKay; father, Monroe Cherry; mother, Edna Cherry; and her children, Rick Ward, Cindy McKay, and Scott Stovall.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Helen's life during the funeral services. A Rosary will be held at Heath Funeral Home on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM, followed by a public visitation at 6:30 PM. The funeral service will take place at Heath Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM, officiated by Glen McKay. Helen will be laid to rest at Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery.
In this time of mourning, let us remember Helen Louise McKay as a remarkable woman whose love, kindness, and vibrant spirit touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
