Listen to Obituary

Harold Douglas Clayton, 86, of Paragould, Arkansas, was called home by his Lord and Savior on October 27, 2026. He passed into glory peacefully from Greene Acres Nursing Home.

Harold was born on January 6, 1940. He graduated from Hornersville High School, class of 1958, and married his best friend, Deanna, in 1962. They settled in Paragould and after having three kids (Toni, Tim, and Tommy), moved to the country on Highway 49 South where they raised their children, trained horses, rode motorcycles, and helped maintain many acres of beautiful farmland.

Harold's life was marked by hard work, deep laughter, good stories, fierce loyalty, and careful maintenance.

For over 20 years Harold dedicated himself to serving the greater Greene County region through his management of John Deere Parts at Kirk Equipment Company. In 1992 he began work at Prestolite Wire where he operated a forklift for several decades until his retirement. Harold received multiple awards for his dedication and perfect attendance.

Harold loved to laugh, to playfully tease, and to play practical jokes on those he loved. Those who knew him well were often the butt of his jokes. Humor was his love language and he enjoyed entertaining.

Harold loved a good story. He loved to watch them-especially if John Wayne or Clint Eastwood were involved. He loved to tell them-in long form. (He could remember every detail.) And he loved to hear them.

Harold was dedicated-to God, his family, his career, his home, and his church. He was protective and carried a deep sense of justice, standing up for what was right, no matter the cost. He was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Harvest Baptist Church (formerly East Side Baptist Church) for over 30 years, where he cherished his time with his Sunday School class.

Harold was a particular man. He loved a clean, organized, carefully managed life. Everything had a place-and usually a label. His handwriting was impeccable. He didn't like messes or carelessness. From his shiny shoes, well-groomed lawn, spotless truck, clean shop floor, and the beautiful horses he groomed and trained, Harold took pride in being a good steward of all the blessings God entrusted to him.

Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Deanna Clayton; his daughter, Toni (Jackie) Fulton of Paragould; his son, Timothy Clayton (Kem Tyler) of Mountain Home; his son, Tommy (Sarah) Clayton of DeLand, Florida; his brother, Rev. Wayne (Linda) Clayton of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Charlie Arnold Clayton; mother, Leola Clayton; and brother, Donald Clayton, Sr.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Greene Acres Nursing Home for the exceptional care and love extended to Harold in his final days. They would also like to thank special family friend and helper, Carlene Eads.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Harvest Baptist Church in Paragould, AR, with a public visitation beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM. Harold will be laid to rest at Linwood Cemetery.
