It is with great sadness and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of Gary Bernard Jackson, Sr. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the age of 51. Born on June 4, 1974, in Little Rock, Gary was a beloved figure in his family and community, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
Gary graduated from Altheimer-Sherrill High School in 1992 before furthering his education at Arkansas State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business. As a formidable player on the football field, he achieved All-American honors as a Defensive End and was later inducted into the Arkansas Football Hall of Fame, a testament to his remarkable athletic talent and dedication.
Initially, Gary served in a leadership position mentoring youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. He then pursued a career in education, becoming a teacher and coach, where he was known for his passion for mentoring young students. He continued his educational journey, obtaining a Master's Degree in Education and later a Specialist degree, before advancing to the role of Vice Principal. His commitment to nurturing the next generation led him to transition into the behavioral healthcare sector, where he furthered his dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of young people.
Gary had a love for people like no other. He had so much joy being in the lives of others, whether it be a simple text or a two-hour long phone call. Everything he did, Gary did it with love, devotion, and a smile you couldn't help but share.
On April 3, 1999, Gary shared his smile and heart with Amy Becker as they joined together in marriage.Together, they created a loving home filled with joy and laughter, raising three wonderful children: Gary Jackson, Jr., Isaiah Jackson, and Alexa Jackson. He cherished every moment spent with his family, finding immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, including his love for fried chicken wings and his mother's greens. It is safe to say that Gary liked to eat, whether it was a lemon pound cake or any kind of meat that was on the table.
Gary had a great appreciation for the outdoors and spent many cherished hours caring for his yard and indulging in his passion for hunting. He loved sports, especially football, and was known for his unwavering support of the Kansas City Chiefs. Above all, Gary found peace and purpose in his faith, reveling in worship and the Word. He loved to praise Jesus, and he loved to share the Good News with others.
Gary is survived by his loving spouse of 27 years, Amy of Paragould; children, Gary (Emerson) Jackson Jr. of New York City, Isaiah Jackson of Fayetteville, and Alexa Jackson of Conway; mother, Patricia Davis of Altheimer; father, Edward (Ethel) Barnett of Pine Bluff; brother, Kevin (Monica) Barnett of Pine Bluff; sister, Kenya Jackson of Pine Bluff; and numerous other brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his step-father, C.D. Davis.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Central Baptist Church Paragould Campus beginning at 1 PM. The service will be followed by a visitation until 4 PM.
As we gather to honor Gary's remarkable life, his family wants to express their gratefulness for each and every person who was a part of his story. We encourage you to reflect on the love and inspiration he shared, cherishing the memories that will forever bind us to him.
