Galen Nolan Williams, a cherished father, brother, and friend passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on April 8, 1933, in Beech Grove, Arkansas, Galen lived a life rich with purpose and passion, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him.
Galen dedicated his professional life as a heavy equipment operator for the Arkansas Highway Department, where he earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues. He was also a talented athlete, having played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals, a testament to his competitive spirit and love of the game. In addition to minor league, Galen also played baseball for the United States Army, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his country.
A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galen found solace and community in his faith. He was actively involved in the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association and enjoyed his retirement alongside fellow retired highway employees. His love for the land and agriculture shone brightly as he relished raising cattle on his farm, hunting, and exploring flea markets.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Nina Williams, his loving wife, Celeste Williams; son, Ted Williams; and brother, Curtis Williams.
Galen is survived by his beloved children: daughter, Julie Chipman, sons, Tim (Tammy) Williams, and Trent (Keith) Williams; siblings, Donald (Marianne) Williams, Kent (Phyllis) Williams, and Sue Hale; grandchildren, Ryan Chipman, Crystal (Nathan) Palmer, Rachel Williams, Sam Williams, Zach (Melanie) Williams, Taylor (Casey) Williams, Megan (Matt) Lang; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Laila, Grayson, Ed, Asher, Sutton, Sawyer, Ollie, Max, Lorenza, Isabella, Sophia, Liliana, Jasmine, and Jaice. He is also survived by his son, Ted's, wife, Lori Williams-Kenney; special friend, Dot Manley; and sister-in-law, Judy Williams. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will forever remember him for his zest for life, love of children, appreciation for good food, and passion for ballgames.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 6:00 PM with visitation following at 6:30 PM at Heath Funeral Home. A mass celebrating Galen's life will take place on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
Pallbearers for the ceremony will include Ryan Chipman, Taylor Williams, Zach Williams, Sam Williams, Jaice Kellum, and Andrew Kellum.
In honoring Galen's legacy, the family invites all who knew him to join in commemorating a remarkable life well-lived.
