Ellen Swan

July 17, 1936 — July 1, 2024

Ellen Valrew Swan, 87, of Paragould, passed from this life on Monday, July 1, 2024. She was born on July 17, 1936, in Childers, AR, to the late Dempsey and Ruthie Cole. As a devoted homemaker, Valrew cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, finding immense joy in caring for her family and spending time with her loved ones. She married her love, William Swan, on January 10, 1965, and lived an eventful life for 50 years until his passing in 2016.

Valrew's passions for crocheting, sewing, gardening, and genealogy defined her character. Her skilled hands brought to life intricate designs through her crafts, and her green thumb nurtured vibrant gardens that blossomed year after year. Valrew's enthusiasm for tracing her family roots was unparalleled, a journey she pursued with unwavering dedication.

In her leisure, Valrew reveled in the spirited games of cards, with Rummy being a particular favorite. However, her greatest love was found in her faith, where she discovered strength, solace, and purpose during her Christian journey.

Valrew is survived by her sons, Steve (Kimberly) Gilbert of Evening Star and Keith Gilbert of Paragould; daughters, Ruthie (Billy Fraze) Swan, Serena (Larry) Eason, and Leslie Swan, all of Paragould; 20 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; brother, Verlon Cole; sisters, Ruth Gomer, Delphia Sue Cox, and Brenda Cole; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Rhonda Valrew Ashley; granddaughter, Christian Ann Gilbert; brothers, Dillon, Wilburn, Theodore, William, and Donald Cole; and sister, Rachel Hayes.

A visitation will be held Friday, July 5, 2024, 6-8 pm at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday morning, July 6, 2024, at 10:00 am with Rev. Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Finch Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kasey Gilbert, Tony Gilbert, Jason Jones, Kris Jones, Rickey Daniels, and Steve Eason. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hunter Burk, Jay Rowland, and Larry Eason.

The departure of Valrew from this world has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her, yet her legacy of love, creativity, and devotion will forever endure in the lives she touched. May she find eternal peace in the embrace of the Lord, whom she loved immensely.
