Dallas "Duke" Hooks

April 1, 1948 — May 26, 2025

Dallas Ray Hooks, affectionately known as "Duke," passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025. Born on April 1, 1948, Duke lived a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and the agricultural community that shaped him.

Duke was the devoted husband of Mary Joyce Foster Hooks, with whom he shared a loving marriage beginning on October 14, 1966. Together, they built a life filled with memories, joy, and unwavering support for one another. As a proud father, he instilled values of hard work and compassion in his children. Duke was a passionate grandfather, and he cherished his role as a great-grandfather, a role which brought immense joy to his life.

For nearly 30 years, Duke was dedicated to farming, a vocation that resonated deeply with his love for the land and his favorite John Deere tractors, which he favored in their iconic green. His work ethic extended beyond the fields; he also served as a machine operator at Martin Sprocket & Gear for 17 years, where he earned the respect and friendship of many.

An enthusiastic tinkerer, Duke enjoyed spending his free time working in the yard, particularly setting up the lights that illuminated his home. He found great delight in the conversations with family, often playfully teasing his son-in-law and reveling in the companionship of his family and friends.

A long-time member of the Liberty Church of Christ, Duke's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his relationships and daily endeavors. His genuine spirit and kindhearted nature created lasting connections with those fortunate enough to know him.

Duke is survived by his loving bride of 58 years, Joyce; children, Donnie (Tracy) Hooks and Shelley (Dennis) Vickers; grandsons, Zachary (Hanna) Vickers, Jon Vickers, and Samuel (Amanda) Hooks; great granddaughters, Carman and Emery Hooks; and his uncle who was more like a brother, Charlie Murray. Duke also leaves behind countless family and friends who will remember him for his warmth, humor, and dedication. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dallas and Wilma Murray Hooks, and his brother, Larry Don Hooks.

A visitation will be Friday morning, May 30, 2025, at Heath Funeral Home from 9:30 until 10:30. Family and friends will meet at Linwood Cemetery at 11 AM for a graveside service in honor of Duke. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating his life, reflecting on the meaningful moments shared with him.

He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
