Clara Stevens

January 16, 1932 — May 4, 2025

Clara Mae Stevens, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Paragould, Arkansas, at the age of 93. Born on January 16, 1932, in Delaplaine, Arkansas, she was the cherished daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Pitcher. Clara was a proud citizen of the United States and spent her life devoted to her family and faith.

Clara was married to the love of her life, Woody Stevens, for an extraordinary 64 years. Their bond was a testament to unwavering love and commitment. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home, filled with laughter, delicious meals, and cherished memories. A devoted homemaker, Clara excelled in cooking and baking, sharing her culinary creations with friends and family, who delighted in her treats.

A lifelong member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ, Clara's faith was a guiding light in her life. As a child, she would walk three miles every Sunday to attend Evening Star Church of Christ, exemplifying her deep devotion. Clara had a passion for many things-she loved to dance in her younger years and carried her enthusiasm for sports throughout her life as a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Razorbacks basketball. She was also a devoted admirer of Elvis Presley, whose music she cherished.

Though Clara had a love for many, nothing brought her greater joy than her family. She is survived by her beloved daughter Vera (Larry) Bounds; her son Charles Stevens; and her grandchildren: Christopher Bounds, Brent (Debbie) Bounds, Kelly (Autumn) Bounds, Jonathan (Amy) Bounds, Brian (Andrea) Bounds, and Crystal (Rob) Lee. Her legacy continues through her numerous great-grandchildren, including Emelie, Abbie, Eleanor, Chloe, Michael, Irissa, Josie, Hailey, Jade, Ryland, Kendra, Lana, Aster, Harper, Sawyer, and Wilder; and dear friends Theodore Parten, Glennie Stooksbury, and Kim Ridenour. Clara's happiest moments were when she had her entire family gathered together, a testament to her loving nature and nurturing spirit.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Woody" Stevens; parents, Edward Pitcher and Margaret Pitcher; daughter, Deborah Stormes; grandson, Craig Stormes; and siblings: Frank Pitcher, Benjamin Pitcher, Hazel Summers, Glen Pitcher, Vondia Pitcher, Cleo Pitcher, Norman Pitcher, Wilbur Pitcher, and Leorn Pitcher.

Clara's faithful companion, a dog named Sassy, provided her with comfort and companionship throughout the years, illustrating her warm and caring disposition.

A visitation will be held at Heath Funeral Home on Thursday, May 8, at 11:00 AM. A funeral service celebrating Clara's life will commence at 1:00 PM the same day, with her burial taking place at Greene County Memorial Gardens. Pastor Adam Bruton will be officiating.
