Catherine Lattus

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Mason Lattus, who peacefully passed away on July 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 79.

Born on March 8, 1947, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Catherine was the beloved daughter of the late Edward Mason and Lorene Mason. She lived a life defined by kindness, unwavering faith, and a deep love for her family and her students.

For more than 30 years, Cathy faithfully served the Paragould School District as a teacher and librarian at Woodrow Wilson School after graduating from Arkansas State University with her Bachelor of Science in Library Science. She loved teaching and found great joy in helping children learn, grow, and discover a lifelong love of reading. She considered her students a true blessing and cherished the relationships she built with them over the years. Her classroom and library were places of encouragement, kindness, and curiosity, where every child felt valued and supported. She also treasured the friendships she shared with her fellow teachers and staff at Woodrow Wilson, many of whom became lifelong friends.

Above all else, Cathy treasured her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved. She was known for her quiet strength, warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering support. Her love was unconditional, and the memories she created with her family will be cherished forever.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela and Dave Detlefsen; her son, Robert and Cary Lattus; her sister, Holly and Jim Sullivan; her grandchildren, Andrew Pigue, Alexander Pigue, Ashton and Mallory Pigue, Dylan Detlefsen, Garret and Faith Detlefsen, Olivia Lattus, Thomas and Jocelyn Lattus, Will and Kierstyn Lattus, Mary Lattus, Paul Lattus, Sarah Lattus, Nate Lattus, Haddie Lattus, Emmie Lattus, and Jack Lattus; her great-grandchildren, Victoria, Clayton, Chloe, Jaxon, Sophia, Murphy, Gwendolyn, and Pearl; and her nieces, Shannon and Shane Tripod, Sheri and Brian Green, and Heidi and Keat Cohn.

A Mass will be said for Cathy on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Serving as pallbearers are Cathy's grandsons, Andrew Pigue, Alexander Pigue, Ashton Pigue, Thomas Lattus, Will Lattus, Paul Lattus, and Nate Lattus, and Jack Lattus as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will have a private burial.
