Carolyn Juanita Vanhorn

May 28, 1935 — January 19, 2024

Carolyn Juanita Vanhorn, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully from this life on January 19, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on May 28, 1935, in the close-knit community of Mobley, Arkansas, to her proud parents, B.M. and Roena Lewallen. Carolyn's warm smile, nurturing spirit, and unwavering love will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Carolyn's life was adorned with passion and purpose. A devout Baptist, she found solace and strength in her faith. She served as a dedicated member of her local church, sharing her love for Christ through her unwavering devotion and kindness towards others.

As a homemaker, Carolyn's love radiated within the walls of her home. She found joy in the art of quilting, meticulously crafting pieces that were not only beautiful but also infused with her love and warmth. Her talented hands could create stunning works of art, each stitch telling a story of love and care.

Carolyn's skills in the kitchen were legendary. With a generous heart and a love for country cooking, she delighted family and friends with her mouthwatering homemade dishes. Her cakes were particularly renowned, leaving everyone longing for just one more slice. Memories of her delectable creations will forever linger on the taste buds and in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have experienced them.

In her leisure hours, Carolyn found joy in the simplicities of life. She enjoyed sitting down and immersing herself in puzzles. Her collection of puzzle books was extensive, a testament to her sharp mind and her love for mental stimulation. She also endured a love/hate relationship with the St. Louis Cardinals. When they were winning, she was enthrawled in the game. When they were losing, the channel quickly turned to another station.

On June 7, 1952, Carolyn exchanged vows with the love of her life, Loren Vanhorn. Together, they built a foundation of love, trust, and cherished moments that would last a lifetime. Carolyn's dedication to her family was unwavering, and her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren were the light of her life. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she treasured every moment spent together.

Carolyn leaves behind her children, Dennis Vanhorn, Shelia Vanhorn, Sherry Stanfill, all of Paragould, and David (Tonya) Vanhorn of Marmaduke. Her grandchildren include Dennis's two children; Shelia's children, Cortney Page, Mandi Jones, and Cody Miller; Sherry's children, Kelli (Jeremy) Lange and Justin (Sammy) Stanfill; and David's children, Jacob (Krystal) Vanhorn and Alison (Alex) West. Carolyn also leaves behind her fifteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Lewallen; sisters, Peggy Thomas, Judy Martin, and Brenda Vincent; and cousin and best friend, Freda Steelman. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Charles Lewallen; and sister, Alla Jean Priest.

A visitation will be held at Heath Funeral Home on January 23, 2024, from 10-11 am. The funeral service will commence at 11:00 am with Revs. Bill Muse and Tracy Archibald officiating. Carolyn's final resting place will be at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke. Pallbearers are Mike Graves, Keith Graves, Gary Priest, Shannon Dicus, Marty Dicus, and Bobby D. Lewallen.

Though Carolyn's physical presence will be greatly missed, her legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May we find solace in the knowledge that she has found eternal peace, quilted in the warm embrace of heaven.
