In Loving Memory of Calvin James.
Born on Christmas Day in 2012, Calvin James, a hairless Chinese Crested, crossed the rainbow bridge after thirteen unforgettable years of life, laughter, and absolute personality.
Though bred for show and the last one of the group chosen, he clearly preferred a much more laid-back lifestyle. Over the years, Calvin taught his humans, Casey and Josh, how to live fully, love loudly, and find joy in the smallest everyday moments.
From the very first night Casey met him, Calvin made his intentions clear. Mid-stride, he stopped, turned around, and leapt straight into Casey’s arms—as if to say, “There you are.” From that moment on, Calvin chose us just as much as we chose him, and we became his humans.
Calvin lived life loudly and fully.
He was rambunctious, opinionated, endlessly affectionate, and often dramatic in the most charming ways. He pranced when he walked—head high, feet light, like he owned the place—commanding every room he entered and somehow carrying more human energy in his tiny body than most people we’ve ever met.
He loved the finer things in life—being complimented, gourmet cheese, Goldfish crackers, rotisserie chicken, squeaky toys, and treats in abundance.
His hobbies included long sun baths, proudly guarding his backyard and deck post from every bird, cat, and passing creature brave enough to enter his kingdom… and riding around with the top off, feeling the wind and taking in the world like he owned it.
Though anything that flies and buzzes was an entirely different story.
More than anything, Calvin was an unmatched champion cuddler.
He also had a flair for theatrics, mysteriously “falling ill” whenever he sensed we were about to leave town or had plans—an uncanny talent that kept both us and the vets on our toes more times than we can count.
Nothing made him happier than greeting us at the door, flopping dramatically onto his back for belly rubs and demanding his signature big stretch and booty scratches. In those moments, the world felt perfectly right.
For thirteen years, Calvin filled our home with laughter, chaos, companionship, and a kind of love that only a dog can give.
He was loud, stubborn, affectionate, protective, and completely unforgettable.
Quite simply, Calvin James was one of a kind.
We will always be grateful that Calvin chose us to be his humans. Our lives are forever better because he was part of them, and the love he gave us will stay with us always.
Run wild, naked, and free, sexy man.
Big love, Calboogie.
