Berta Lou Rusak, born on September 12, 1928, in Stanford, Arkansas, departed this life peacefully on October 1, 2026. She was a dedicated English teacher whose passion for education was evident throughout her notable career at Stanford High School and Phillips County Community College. Berta's commitment to learning was matched only by her academic achievements, as she held two Master's Degrees: one from Ole Miss which she was particularly proud of.
A devoted follower of Christ, Berta's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active and cherished member of Rosewood Baptist Church, where her commitment to her faith fostered deep connections within her community. Berta's relationship with Jesus provided her with strength and purpose, guiding her through every chapter of her life.
Family was at the heart of Berta's existence. She delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, embracing each moment with love and warmth. Family gatherings, particularly dinners with her cousins, filled her with joy and laughter. Berta will be lovingly remembered by her cousin and beloved caregiver Kelly (Shana) Gramling; her grandchildren, Sarah Roach (JoDee Patterson), Matt Rusak (Jessica Baxley), David (Lauren) Roach; and her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Baxley, Daniel Rusak, Jadyn Ashcraft, and Austin St. Jean. She also leaves behind her cherished former son-in-law, Terry Roach.
Berta was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Rusak; father, Jesse Gramling; mother, Zora Gramling; and children, Barbara Rusak and Danny Rusak.
In her earlier years, Berta resided in Chicago, where she worked for GMAC and developed a love for Chicago Cubs baseball that was only matched by her love of Ole Miss football. A woman of grace and style, she had a unique affinity for visiting the salon to have her hair done, finding joy in the little things that brightened her days.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Berta's life with a Funeral Service on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Rosewood Baptist Church, where Bro. Heath Vines will officiate. Public visitation will take place at the same location at 11:00 AM. Following the service, Berta will be laid to rest at Shiloh Cemetery.
Berta Lou Rusak's legacy of love, faith, and dedication to family and education will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
