Rev. Edward August Steyer

Rev. Edward August Steyer, 91, was called home to life eternal on Friday, July 11, 2014. He was born April 6, 1923, in Lafe, AR, son of the late Henry A. and Marie (Braun) Steyer. He was baptized on April 22, 1923, by Rev. Hemmann. Confirmed in 1936, by Rev. Warner Weich at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lafe, AR. He married Mae L. Koelm on July 30, 1968. Edward farmed on his father’s farm until 1950 and then worked for GM-Buick in Flint, Michigan from 1950-1955. He attended Springfield Seminary from 1955-1961. Vicared in Drumkhellar and Craigmyle, Alberta, Canada from 1959-1960. His first call was to Drayton Valley and Tomahawk where he was ordained. He also served as Vacancy Pastor in Hinton, Edson and Jasper from 1961-1965. Also served as Circuit Counselor. He was called to Norris, Midland and Kadoka, South Dakota from 1965-1968. He was called to Beach and Belfield, North Dakota from 1968-1972. Also served as Circuit Counselor. He was called to Odebolt, Iowa (Trinity and Immanuel) from 1972-1974. He was called to Aleman, Texas from 1974-1977. He was called to Gillet and Hintz, Wisconsin from 1977-1984 and also served as Circuit Counselor. He was a delegate to the convention in St. Louis, MO in 1981. He was called to Redeemer Lutheran in Paragould, AR from 1985-1988 and retired in January of 1989. He was active in LLL starting in 1961 and also Walter League Advisor in Alberta, Canada. He worked at Wal-Mart in Paragould from 1990-1996. Survivors include step-sons William Max Koelm of Hammond, IN and Robert Harold Koelm (Kitty) of Rochester, IN; sister Elizabeth Doering of Valparaiso, IN. nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mae Steyer, brothers Martin, Carl, Theodore and Ernst Steyer. Visitation will be Monday, July14, 2014, from 10:30-12:00 AT Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 P.M. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Pastor David Riley officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lafe, AR.
