Patricia Anne Loyd Buchanan

August 17, 1959 — March 15, 2022

Patricia Anne Loyd Buchanan, a beloved daughter, mother, and friend, left this world on the morning of March 15, 2022, surrounded by her two daughters and parents at home in Southaven, Mississippi.

On August 17, 1959, Patricia was born in New Orleans, Louisiana as the youngest of four siblings to loving parents, A.G. and Rose Loyd. Her curiosity to travel the world first began as a child when their family moved from the Memphis area to Panama City, Panama. For two years, she thrived amongst her new surroundings while her Father served a foreign tour of duty with the FAA, allowing her the opportunity to encounter the Panamanian way of life.

At the age of 21, Patricia served a two-year, Spanish speaking mission to Paraguay for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was here she spent a great deal of time living amongst the Guarani Indians, absorbing their culture and ancient, indigenous language. The skills she acquired during this time laid the foundation that she would soon begin building upon, making her mark on this world.

Patricia spent the better part of 34 years traveling the world as an International Flight Attendant. She experienced 6 of the 7 World Wonders, and set foot on every inhabited continent. People were drawn to her liveliness, humor, and tenacity; picking up lifelong friends everywhere she went. She was able to share this love for traveling with her two daughters, bringing them along for weekend getaways from Italy to China. Patricia and her girls made forever memories across the globe as she instilled much of herself within them.

In 2016, Patricia planted roots in South Florida where she quickly became a vital member to the community. She shared her enthusiasm for learning while teaching Seminary to High School students. Patricia had a hunger for knowledge and often said her happiest moments were spent as a worker in Ft. Lauderdale temple.

Patricia’s talents were endless. She was a creative that knew no bounds with no challenge too daunting. Grace accompanied her every move, always putting the needs of others before her own. After being diagnosed with colon cancer in early 2020, she made her way back home to Southaven, Mississippi with her parents. She displayed immense courage in her fight to live while maintaining beautiful elegance and selfless concern for others during her valiant battle. She fought the good fight, all the while never ceasing to bring laughter to those around her. To know her was to love her.

What a remarkable life. What an extraordinary mom. What an incredible woman.

Patricia is survived by her two daughters, Lindsey Rose Buchanan and Morgan Tyler Buchanan of Delray Beach, FL; parents, A.G. and Rose Loyd of Southaven, MS; sister Dona Bates of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; nephews Billy Bates of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Alex Loyd of Salt Lake City, UT, Blair Loyd of San Antonio, TX, Judd Loyd of Jonesboro, AR, and Lexx Loyd of Jonesboro AR; and nieces Audra Loyd of Athens, GA, and Tessa Loyd of Conway, AR. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Loyd and Don Loyd.
