Oma Stevens

March 5, 1917 — March 24, 2017

Oma Stevens, 100, of Ward, Arkansas was received into the arms of Jesus Christ on March 24, 2017, at home surrounded by her family.

Oma was born on March 5, 1917, to the late Richard and Sarah (Collins) Callison in Knobel. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Virgle Stevens; daughter, Bonnie Abbott; son, James Ladyman; grandchildren, Julie Kelly Jones, David Abbott, Earl Griggs, Joey Stevens, and Steven Tucker; and great grandchildren, Justin Griggs and Isla Lyn Stevens.

Oma is survived by seven daughters, Genell Shannon, Villie Rogers, Flossie (Larry) Breckenridge, Freida (Cecil) Kelly, and Janice (Frankie) Starling all of Paragould, Virgie (Ron) Pilarski of Michigan City, Indiana, and Anita (Tim) Standish of Ward; three sons, Monte Stevens and Kevin Stevens of Paragould and Keith (Phyllis) Stevens of Ward; 35 grandchildren; 68 great grandchildren; 44 great great grandchildren; and 5 great great great grandchildren.

Oma was born and raised around Knobel. She lived her married life and raised her children in Paragould. During World War II, Oma made and packaged bandages for the American Red Cross. She was retired from Greene Acres Nursing Home and was a member of Bethel Station Baptist Church.

Oma was a wonderful, loving wife and mother who always put her children and family first. She was a strong, faithful lady. Oma loved to sew, make quilts, and was a great cook. She will be sadly missed by her friends and family.

Visitation will be at Heath Funeral Home on Monday evening from 4-5 for her family and 5-7 for the public. Oma's celebration of life will be Tuesday at 11 am at Heath Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Ring officiating. Interment will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Jeff Williams, Willie Don Williams, Corey Breckenridge, Michael Stevens, Bobby Rogers, and David Stevens. Honorary pallbearers are Oma's great grandsons.
