Myrtle Louise Compton

November 25, 1922 — May 31, 2013

Myrtle Louise (Arnold) Compton, age 90, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, her husband, Bill, and her daughter, Georgetta, at the home of her daughter, Peggy and husband, John Winter, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma onFriday, May 31, 2013. She was born November 25, 1922 at Evening Shade, AR, to Jim and Lillie May (Ragsdell) Arnold. She attended Delaplaine High School and was proud to be on the first basketball and softball teams in 1938. She and Bill Compton were married 69 years before his death in 2008. They attended Delaplaine Baptist Church and farmed from the 1940's to 1994 when they moved to Broken Arrow to be near their daughter and family. Myrtle also worked at Ed White Shoe Factory and Darling Store Fixtures for about 25 years. She reitred in the early 80's soon after falling down a ladder and crushing her ankle. Myrtle was a member of GloryLand Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, and is credited with suggesting the name of the church. She loved being at church and the GloryLand family was especially dear. She enjoyed teaching her Delaplaine Sunday School Class, walking and crafting with friend, Nellie Harpole, traveling to all of the states except Alaska, doing Word Search puzzles, and expecially watching Thunder and Maverick basketball and Cardinal Baseball. Myrtle is survived by daughter: Peggy Winter and husband John, of Broken Arrow, granddaughter, Laura Winter, Albuquerque, NM, a brother, Kenneth Arnold, Paragould, AR, numerous nieces and nephews and other family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter, two sisters, Mary Gazaway and Hazel Cannon, three brothers, John, Charlie and Junior Arnold. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Heath Funeral Home, Paragould. Her life will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Charles Abanathy officiating. Burial will follow at Jones Ridge Cemetery.
