d. May 30, 2017

Mayo M. Breckenridge Stallcup, known to many as Memmie, of Beech Grove and Paragould, passed from this life on May 30, 2017, at the age of 92. Mrs. Stallcup leaves an impressive legacy to her church, community, and school. Having taught social studies at Greene County Tech for 38 years, she has had a very profound and positive effect on many students as well as community and state leaders. She began her teaching career during World War II with an emergency teaching certificate because of a shortage of teachers and completed her degree in education from Arkansas State University in 1959. Mrs. Stallcup began her career teaching elementary school and then moved to high school to teach social studies. There she served as Chairman of the Social Studies Department for several years.

Over the years, Mrs. Stallcup was responsible for establishing the Arkansas Room at Greene County Tech which is filled with books, maps, and crafts as well as artifacts pertaining to Arkansas. Being a good citizen was very important to Mrs. Stallcup, she prided herself in teaching her students good citizenship and therefore impacted the lives of hundreds of her students and community. She was also very interested in government. In 1967, she began taking groups of students to Washington D. C. to give the students the opportunity to see the federal government in action. Then, in 1972, she began helping students attend the Presidential Classroom in Washington that gave students an in depth look at the National Capitol.

In 1971, Mrs. Stallcup initiated Greene County Tech's Veterans Day Assembly to acknowledge the contributions of Greene County's veterans in all U. S. Wars. This became an annual event with several State and National officials as featured speakers.

Mrs. Stallcup was a very active member of the Beech Grove Methodist Church for over 90 years. She taught Sunday School classes there for many years as well as being involved in every aspect of the church. Her family were founding members of her church and were very involved for generations. Mrs. Stallcup was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority where she served as President for two years and Treasurer for ten years. She had the distinction of being the longest serving sorority member.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Stallcup; father and mother, Alvie and Annie Breckenridge; brother, Rayo Breckenridge.

Survivors include daughter, Joan Franks and her husband Robert of Sherwood; grandchildren, Jana Franks of North Little Rock, Angela and her husband Greg Seaton of Scott; great grandchildren, Allie Seaton and Morgan Seaton of Scott; sister, Willamae Mandrell of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother, Russell Breckenridge and wife Jane of Mountain Home; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Debbie Vassar and the staff of Chateau on the Ridge in Paragould, Reba Smith and the staff of Southridge Assisted Living in Cabot, and for the unbelievable care and compassion of all the staff at the inpatient facility of Hospice Home Care of Little Rock. A huge thanks to Dr. Morgan Sauer and Dr. Tiffany Smith, who made the journey comfortable with their compassion, counseling, and caring.

She was an exceptional role model especially for Joan, Jana, Angie, Allie, and Morgan, and was a tremendous influence that made them who they are today.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the First Methodist Church, 6701 J. F. K. Boulevard, North Little Rock, AR 72116.
