King Arant Swanson, 97, a resident of St. Bernard’s village assisted living in Jonesboro, AR, passed away on May 13, 2013 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Preceding her in death were her parents Perry and Lottie Arant, one son, Bobby Sellers, a brother, Tom Frank Arant- all of Fort Deposit, Alabama, and her husband, Jimmie Swanson of Monroeville, Alabama. Survivors include: one sister, Verla Mae Bush of Huntsville, TX, one nephew and wife, Tommy and Jennifer Arant of Paragould, AR, one niece Betty Turner of Willis, TX, one great-niece that she considered a granddaughter, Audra Arant-Choate, and Husband Will Choate, of Little Rock, AR. She also had additional nieces, great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Swanson lived in Alabama for 82 years. She had fond memories of Auburn, Jackson, and Monroeville, Alabama and the wonderful friends she had in those towns. She was a retired beautician who loved gardening, cooking, and entertaining friends, neighbors, and family. Upon her husband’s death in 1998 she moved to Paragould to be near her nephew. While there, she attended Paragould First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Homemakers Sunday school class. She proudly continued her membership at the First United Methodist Church in Monroeville, AL. Mrs. Swanson was truly a “southern lady” with an accent to prove it. There was always a smile for everyone, and her gentle demeanor welcomed anyone who crossed her path. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends across the states of Alabama, Arkansas and Texas. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 directed by Johnson’s Funeral Home of Monroeville. The service will be held at 1pm at the Baptist Cemetery with The Reverend Sara Shaver officiating. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Monroeville FUMC, 324 Pineville RD, Monroeville, AL 36460 The family wishes to thank the nurses at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House for their special care the last week of her life. They would also like to extend their appreciation to St. Bernard’s Village for her care during the last 3 years.
