Jerry Dean Jones, 78, of Paragould, passed away Sunday in Jonesboro. He was born April 13, 1938, in Cardwell. Before retiring, he owned his own heating, air conditioning, and plumbing business called HAPS. In his early years, Jerry served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he earned a Purple Heart. After returning home, he became involved in the American Legion and served as Post Commander. Jerry's passion for the military continued as he joined Quilts of Valor. He started his own chapter in Paragould called Tears of Valor. Jerry was the son of the late Jesse and Beckie Jones. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey D. Jones; brother, Lonnie G. Jones; and nephew, Lonnie L. Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Jones; daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Kerr of Long Beach, California; daughter-in-law, Michelle Jones of New Orleans, Louisiana; grandsons, Perrin Jones, Alan Kerr, and Micheal Boedigheimer; step-son, Joe Max, Jr. (Tammy) Higgins of Columbus, Mississippi; step-daughter, Frankie (Mike) Carter of Paragould; step-grandchildren, Hannah Higgins and Alec Carter; brothers, John T. (Lavada) Jones of O'Fallon, Missouri and DeWayne (Roberta) Jones of Cordova, Tennessee; and sister, Jessie (Mitchell) Godfrey of Branson, Missouri.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1-2 PM at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral begins at 2 with DeWayne Jones officiating. Burial is in Greene County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Steve Kerr, Mike Carter, Darrell Phillips, Mitchell Godfrey, Michael Jones, and Terry Wilkins. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Hyde and J.T. Jones.
