Jane Schreit Mckenzie

February 2, 1921 — January 3, 2013

Jane Schreit McKenzie 91, of Paragould, Arkansas passed away peacefully at her home on January 3rd. Born in Festus, Missouri February 2,1921 to Anna Habba Schreit and Frank Joseph Schreit Sr. Jane moved to Paragould, her senior year of high school in 1937 with her parents and siblings. She graduated from Paragould High School in 1938 and attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. After returning to Paragould she married the love of her life John Willis McKenzie in 1942 and they were married for 69 wonderful years. Mrs. McKenzie worked for her father at Ely Walker Shirt factory in the office several years doing book keeping work. After 17 years of marriage she and Mr. McKenzie had a daughter in 1959 and she emersed herself in all activities that had to do with being a wonderful mom. Mrs. McKenzie loved being active in Paragould. She loved participating in Bells and Beaux a community musical and dance show that benefited Methodist Hospital. Always an avid Razorback and sports fan. She also enjoyed volunteering at the election polls, family gatherings at the cottage in Hardy, gardening in her yard, dancing with Mr. McKenzie, bowling and most of all playing golf. She was the treasurer of the Paragould Ladies Golf Association of Paragould Country Club for a multitude of years where she won the Ladies Golf Championship in 1978. She enjoyed playing in tournaments near and far with her friends and especially with her favorite golfing partner John McKenzie. Later in life she participated in Arkansas Senior Olympics where she won several gold medals for her golf skills. Much of her time was spent attending her grandchildren's activities and supporting and cheering them on in all their activities. Her later years were spent mostly at home as she suffered several stokes that limited her mobility. But her positive attitude was always evident. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Schreit of Paragould, her brother Frank Schreit of Paragould, sister Patsy Schreit Tannehill of Panama City, Florida and her husband John Wills McKenzie of Paragould. She is survived by her daughter Ann McKenzie Noland and husband Brian Noland of Little Rock, grandaughter Emily Catherine Noland of Fayetteville, and grandson John Paul McKenzie Noland of Venice, California. Along with her sister in law, Mary Ann Schreit of Paragould and brother in law Joe K. Tannehill of Panama City, Florida. Numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. The family would like to thank our extended family of caregivers Marsha Baker, Teri Bowlin, Mary Damron, Kat Garner, Cynthia Presson, and Tina Weston who have taken such wonderful care of Jane in her home. And Dierkson Hospice of Jonesboro for their assistance during her extended illness. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Monday at First United Methodist Church. Her life will be celebrated following visitation on Monday at 2:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Angie Gage officiating.
