Hilda Galloway

Hilda Compton Galloway, age 95, died Thursday at Belle Meade, after a long illness. She was born November 29, 1919 in Delaplaine to Drew and Bertie Gates Compton. She lived most of her life in California. Hilda married Gerald Galloway in 1938 and was married 55 years before his death in 1993. She and Gerald volunteered with Boy Scouts and at Juvenile Hall in Placerville, CA for many years. They baked, played games, and counseled juveniles. Hilda loved to entertain, was an excellent cook and found joy in locating a great new recipe.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Geneva Compton Bridges, James Compton, Richard Otis Compton, Bill Compton and Evelyn Compton Thomsen.

She is survived by her sons: Tim Galloway, Paragould, Gordon Galloway, Knights Landing, CA; sister: Juanita Compton Rogers, Springfield, MO; brother: Harold Compton, Medford, OR; numerous grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, 2:00 at Jones Ridge Cemetery with Brother Charles Abanathy officiating. Memorials may be made to Jones Ridge Cemetery or a charity of the givers choice.
