Helen Virginia Whitney

Helen Virginia Whitney, 84, of Lake City, died Wednesday at Lakeside Nursing Center. She was born November 18, 1923 in Portia, the daughter of the late James and Alice Brummett Coy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Whitney, son-in-law, Harvey Thompson, brothers, Bill Coy and Gene Coy; and sister Juanita Harvey. She was retired from Arkansas State University as a housekeeper and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Mitzie (Jerry) Whitten of Brookland, Wilma Thompson of Lake City; sons, James T. (Verna) Whitney of Paragould, Gary (Debbie) Whitney of Dixie, Arkansas; sister Alice-Jewel Brun of Little Rock, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at Heath Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at the Greene County Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM Saturday for a graveside service with Paul Bean officiating. Grandsons, Alex Whitten, Adam Whitney, James Whitney, Darrell Thompson, Harvey Edward Faulkner and David Bellomy, will be pallbearers. Granddaughters, Erica Whitten, Tara Bellomy and Janis Faulkner, will be honorary pallbearers. To register online, go to www.heathfuneralhome.com.
