Gary Wayne Felty

July 8, 1951 — May 27, 2022

Gary Wayne Felty, 70, of Stanford, passed from this life on Friday, May 27, 2022. He was born on July 8, 1951, to the late Bonnie and Emma Lou (Norwood) Felty. Gary graduated from Stanford High School in 1969. Gary, or "Moe" as he was affectionately known by many, held the free throw record at Stanford High School for almost 30 years until the school closed and consolidated with Paragould. Moe was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Although hard work always came first, Moe enjoyed life to its fullest in so many ways. From a kid and all throughout life, he could be found at Lake Norfork on summer weekends with family and friends, usually teaching somebody how to waterski or barefoot. In the winter time, Moe could be found at his duck hunting cabin at Brookings. Moe loved a good fish fry or cook out any time of year. He loved to hunt, fish, go to the lake or catch a Saturday night horse show in years past, but more than anything, he loved camaraderie and telling stories with his infectious laugh. If laughter is medicine, we’ve all had a dose from Gary over the years in the best way. He also loved sports. He was a great basketball player, and he was a great supporter of others who played. He was a fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and St. Louis Cardinals and could often be found catching a game on TV or on the radio in a tractor or combine. While all of these things describe his interests or hobbies, they do not describe the man he was. Moe was a lifetime farmer. He took great pride in the land he farmed, and he was proud knowing that his hard work fed others across the country and beyond. Moe was a man who cared for others more than himself, and his legacy will continue in all the lives he touched. Many will simply remember him as a legend. Whether you knew him as Gary or Moe, he had a way of making everybody feel welcome-a genuine kindness for all.

Gary is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vicky Hall Felty; daughters, Leanne (Kyle) Harris and Mikka Felty (Branson Davis); grandchildren, Phoebe Harris and Parker Harris; cousin (who was more like a son), Karey Joe (Emily and Gracie) Felty; sister, Cathy (Philip) Rowe; brother, Danny (Anna) Felty; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Gene Felty.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:30-8 pm at Heath Funeral Home. The funeral is Wednesday at 10 am at Heath Funeral Home with Evan Smith and Rev. Adam Bruton officiating. Burial is in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers are Karey Joe Felty, John Allen Felty, Ross Felty, Barrett Person, Shannon May, and Robin May. Honorary pallbearers are the numerous friends he knew and loved over the years (which is probably everyone he ever met).
