Floy Jones

Floy Ann Jones was born June 21, 1926 in Marmaduke. She was married to Dillman Edward Jones and resided at 905 Wirt Street in Paragould for most of her life. In her earlier years, she was a leader and organizer of a 4-H club in Paragould, Arkansas and was actively involved in promoting the principles of the 4H pledge, "my head to clearer thinking", my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living." Mrs. Jones worked with social services as a food and nutrition counselor, teaching those less fortunate, how to shop for and prepare nutritious meals on a budget. She also served for a number of years as president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW, Cathey Dowdy Post 2242 in Paragould. Floy retired twice, first as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone (later AT&T), and as an assembly line worker from Emerson Electric Company. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She raised her children as a member of Griffin Memorial Methodist Church and later was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dillman Edward Jones; her mother and father, Hester Starnes Jones and Chester "Coin" Jones; four brothers, Roy Jones of St. Louis, Mo., Chester Jones and Prentice Jones of Paragould and Joseph Jones of Burton, Mich.; a sister, Camilla Savich of Metairie, La. Survivors include her son, Dewayne Jones of Champaign, Ill., her son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Catherine Jones of Dixon, Mo; her daughters and son-in-laws Scarlett and Jack Hargrave of Rector, Charlotte and Earl Adams of Conway, S.C.; grandsons, Michael Jones of Springfield, Mo., Jeremy Ewing of Paragould; Terry Ewing of Milford, Mass.; granddaughter, Stefanie Jones of Brooklyn, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Sophia Ewing and Brady Ewing of Milford and Hadley Ewing of Paragould; stepdaughter, Tanya Reynolds of Elkin, N.C., a stepson, Jeffrey Adams and spouse, Pat Adams of Huntersville, N.C.; and step-grandchildren, Courtney Cobler, Britney Reynolds and Christopher Cobler of Elkin, N. C., and Nate, Jude and Eliza Adams of Huntersville, N.C.; sisters-in law, Genola Jonesof Burton Michigan, Jean Jones of Paragould as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to VFW Cathey Dowdy Post 2242 in Paragould, Arkansas or the Wounded Warrier Project. There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartsoe Cemetary in Marmaduke with Rev. Wilburn Griggs officiating. Heath Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
