Elmer "Catfish" Oran Grooms

April 28, 1925 — August 10, 2011

Wednesday at Lakeshore Heartland Nursing Home in Nashville, TN with his family by his side. He was born April 28, 1925 the son of the late William Monroe "Mon" and Minnie Russom Grooms. He was also preceded in death by his wife, MaryBell Kappelman Grooms, son, Douglas Grooms, sisters, Bessie Wren, Mable Smith, Elva Hays, Mayo Garner, twin Zelma Crossno, Edith Friar, brothers, Lester and Jessie Grooms. He was the mayor of Oak Grove Heights from 1996-2002, a retired farmer and landowner and worked as a millwright on coal fire and nuclear power houses. He loved fishing and hunting. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law: Clarice Grooms of Nashville, TN; Kimberly and Donald Sinz of Hermitage, TN; Judy Grooms of Memphis, TN; grandchildren: Christopher Pierce, Marissa and Noah Sinz, Dusty and Tina Grooms, Jami and Sandy Grooms, Jeremy and Melissa Grooms; brother: Hulen Grooms of Mayflower; sister: Evelen Davis of St. Louis and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, Saturday, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Brother Troy Mackey officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
