Bette Brewer left this life on December 10, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
She was born to Frank and Elsie (Cupp) Gramling in Stanford, Arkansas on June 27, 1927. The Cupp and the Gramling families were both Greene County pioneers.
Mrs. Brewer was a graduate of Paragould High School and Methodist School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee as a Registered Nurse.
She married Larry Brewer December 28, 1950. They became parents on July 11, 1952 when their only child, Bill, was born. Mrs. Brewer became a stay at home mother being involved in activities in the community as well as at her son’s school.
She always took great pride in saying that she had been a member of The First United Methodist Church in Paragould since she was 9 years old.
Bette was an avid Bridge player who enjoyed playing in foursomes with her many dear friends as well as playing Duplicate Bridge in both Paragould and her second home in Heber Springs, Arkansas where she and Larry also enjoyed a host of friends.
Her passion for the game of Bridge was only eclipsed by her love and caring for family and friends. She loved to cook and entertain.
She was foremost a wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her dearly loved brother, Dr. James F. Gramling of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
She is survived by her son Bill and his wife Diane, granddaughter Shaw Brewer, grandson Will Brewer and his wife Meredith, step granddaughters Neely Camp (Britt), Ali Bean (Casey), Sister-in-Law Martha Gramling, Nieces Beth Sanders (Jim), Sara VanScoy (Robbie), Nephew Jim Gramling (Lacy) and 2 great grandchildren, Jack and Izzy Kate, and 7 great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the staff of St. Elizabeth’s of Jonesboro and her personal caregivers, Brenda Reed, Marie Floyd, and Lessie Shepard.
A graveside service will be held Monday December 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Cardwell Cemetery under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.
